Sesión informativa y evaluación legal de inmigración para ayudar a inmigrantes víctimas de crímenes

El lunes 12 de marzo, Ceiba y los Servicios Legales de Inmigración de Esperanza (EILS) organizarán una sesión informativa y clínica de evaluación legal para ayudar a los inmigrantes que son víctimas de crímenes graves y que pudieran ser elegibles para un remedio migratorio bajo VAWA (Acta de la Violencia Contra las Mujeres) o el programa de Visa-U que proveen alivio a los inmigrantes que han sufrido abuso mental o físico y que colaboran con la policía en la investigación y enjuiciamiento de estos crímenes, que incluyen pero no están limitados a:
  • Violencia doméstica
  • Asalto sexual
  • Asalto agravado
  • Tráfico de personas
  • Chantaje o extorsión
  • Después de la sesión, Ceiba y EILS proveerán evaluaciones legales completas de inmigración.
El evento tomará lugar en Esperanza College, ubicado en el 4261 N 5th St., Philadelphia, PA 19140.
“Muchas personas no están familiarizadas con VAWA y la Visa-U, así que queremos aprovechar esta oportunidad para informar a la comunidad inmigrante sobre los requerimientos de elegibilidad y el proceso de aplicación”, expresó Alexis Duecker, Directora Ejecutiva de EILS. Abogados de Inmigración, representantes acreditados y voluntarios capacitados e informados en trauma estarán presentes para contestar preguntas y hacer evaluaciones completas.
“Aun quienes no sean elegibles para VAWA o la Visa-U deberían asistir al evento, ya que después de la sesión informativa se ofrecerán evaluaciones legales gratuitas de inmigración para determinar la elegibilidad para cualquier tipo de remedio migratorio”, dijo Taylor De La Pena, Coordinadora de Programas de Ceiba.
La sesión también proveerá información sobre ayuda financiera para cubrir las tarifas de aplicación para alivios migratorios.

The Lancaster FEMA Legal Clinic has been RESCHEDULED to MARCH 15, 2018 due to inclement weather.

Registration is still open for the Lancaster Pro-Bono FEMA Legal Clinic that will now take place on Thursday, March 15 2018 at 3 PM at YWCA Lancaster: 110 N. Lime St., Lancaster PA 17602.

Victims of Hurricane Maria have until March 20, 2018 to file a claim with FEMA and 60 days to appeal a denial by FEMA if they filed a claim and were denied disaster relief.

GUAYNABO, Puerto Rico – Survivors of Hurricanes Irma and María are encouraged to contact FEMA and update their information. This is crucial to keeping your application current and to help avoid complications.

Survivors who registered with FEMA and changed addresses, phone numbers or banking information should notify FEMA. It is also a good idea to verify that the data in your application is correct. Missing or outdated information such as phone numbers or addresses can result in delays receiving assistance. It could also mean that mail containing important information about your case is not delivered.


Please ensure the following remains current:

  •  current mailing address.
  •  primary or alternate phone number.
  •  payment preferences (check in the mail or direct deposit).
  •  preference on method of communication (paper mail or e-mail).
  •  language preferences.
  •  location of current residence.
  •  correct/verify home and property damage.
  •  add or change household members and number of occupants.
  •  add or remove name of person designated to speak for you.
  •  insurance information.
Survivors can also call FEMA to:
  •  check the status of your case or home inspection.
  •  learn how to appeal an eligibility determination.
  •  find out if FEMA needs more information about your application.
To review your application, check your status or provide missing information, create (or update) an account at DisasterAssistance.gov.
Survivors can review their applications or update their FEMA accounts in any of the following ways:
  •  Visit a disaster recovery center. FEMA staff at the centers can answer questions about your application and correct or update information in your account. To find the nearest disaster recovery center, visit https://fema.gov/DRC.
  •  Call the FEMA Helpline at 800-621-3362 (FEMA). (Press 2 for Spanish). Persons who are deaf, hard of hearing or have a speech disability and use a TTY may call 800-462-7585. Toll-free numbers are open daily from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Please refer to the nine-digit number issued when you registered with FEMA. This number is on all FEMA correspondence and is a key identifier in tracking assistance requests.

  •  Fax any documentation to 1-800-827-8112.
