Now in its 22nd year, Taller Puertorriqueño’s annual Arturo A. Schomburg Symposium brings together scholars, professional practitioners, and community activists to explore issues in Afro-Latino history and culture. This year’s theme, “Does Violence Have Color?”, considers the multiple aspects and facets of violence as the perpetration of these acts relates to race, power, and socio-economic structures. Join us for a day of presentations, panel discussions, and public conversation about this timely topic.
Featuring speakers Ximena Abello (University of Massachusetts–Amherst), Kenneth Dossar (Temple University, Philadelphia), Pablo Luis Rivera (Interamerican University–Fajardo, Puerto Rico), and Elizabeth L. Sweet (Temple University, Philadelphia), as well as a panel entitled “Institutional Racism, Violence, and Justice.”
